Open role

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

San Francisco, CA (On-site) · Full-time

As the Chief Financial Officer, you will oversee Methodic’s financial health and strategic financial planning. In addition to typical CFO duties, at Methodic you will also lend your financial expertise to help shape our product offerings and pricing, ensuring that we maintain a business model that is both competitive for our customers and sustainable for us. You will be a key member of the leadership team, contributing to high-level decisions and ensuring we have the resources needed to achieve our mission.

Responsibilities

Lead financial planning and analysis: create budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial models that guide the company’s growth strategy. Regularly update the leadership team and board with financial reports and insights on our performance.
Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in bookkeeping, timely financial reporting (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements), and compliance with GAAP and tax requirements.
Manage cash flow and capital allocation. This includes overseeing revenue from our SaaS subscriptions (e.g., tracking the $1 per account usage-based income), controlling expenses, and planning for future funding needs.
Work closely with the CEO on fundraising efforts when needed: prepare financial projections and investor materials, support due diligence processes, and maintain relationships with investors and financial institutions.
Refine and evaluate our business model and pricing strategy. Ensure that the pricing (including volume discounts or custom plans) makes financial sense, and analyze profitability by customer segment, feature, or module.
Implement and monitor internal controls to protect company assets and ensure efficient operations. This includes approving major expenditures, setting up financial policies, and possibly implementing financial software/tools to streamline processes.
Ensure that the company is following all financial regulations and legal standards, including any specific to the fintech industry (though Methodic itself may not be a regulated financial entity, our operations—like handling clients’ funds for billing—must be squeaky clean).
Build and mentor a finance team (perhaps starting with a controller or financial analyst) as the company grows. Foster a culture of data-driven decision making and fiscal responsibility within the organization.

Requirements

10+ years of finance experience, with several years in a senior leadership role (CFO, VP Finance, etc.), ideally in a high-growth tech startup or fintech company.
Strong knowledge of SaaS business metrics (MRR, ARR, churn, LTV, CAC) and experience modeling subscription-based revenue.
Experience in fundraising (venture capital, etc.) and investor relations, with a track record of successfully managing company finances through various stages of growth.
Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations; capable of setting up robust accounting processes. (CPA or MBA is a plus.)
Strategic thinker with the ability to connect financial data to business strategy – you can advise on which opportunities to invest in, where to cut costs, and how to structure deals.
Comfort with analytics and financial software (from Excel models to any modern FP&A tools) and the ability to implement systems as needed.
Excellent communication and leadership skills; able to convey financial concepts to non-financial team members and to represent the company’s financial situation clearly to investors, board members, and other stakeholders.
Passion for Methodic’s mission is a must – understanding the value of our product will help inform smarter financial decisions (e.g., where to allocate budget for maximum impact on growth).
